Win joint Project with Westinghouse

Apply by October 25th [Closed]

We are looking for startups and scaleups who are ready to integrate with Westinghouse.

Our 3 challenges for your project ideas:

  • Strong Robotic Arm for Heat Exchanger Inspections and Repairs

    • Challenge is open to all.

    • Modular and scalable robotic arms are available on the market (e.g. Hebi). They are appropriate for certain light weight applications but not for inspections or repairs that require accuracy in positioning, stiffness and manipulation of more significant payloads. The ideal robotic arm could manage payload up to a 50lb tool and 30lb reaction load. The arm must be able to be installed through a 14 x 18 inch elliptical manway opening, or a 16 inch diameter manway opening. It must operate within a quarter of a sphere. The sphere has a 35 inch radius.  The robot should be modular and consume minimal power, be water resistant and light weight to be easily set up by one single operator. The robot should be reliable and robust to operate without any human intervention. How would you approach this problem?

  • Contactless Sensing of Component Health

    • Challenge by invitation only to SynerLeap startups.

    • Components within a nuclear power plant have a limited set of sensors installed to monitor operation. To lower maintenance cost, plants require greater visibility into the health of their components. Installing new sensors on the component can be expensive. How can a sensor package be developed to monitor critical health parameters (vibration, temperature, radiation, …) without being installed on the component?

  • Advanced Remote Working for Field Operations

    • Challenge by invitation only to SynerLeap startups.

    • In the context of today’s world and the current pandemic, the concept of working remotely is more important than ever. The ability to operate tooling remotely would have a tremendous positive impact on both our workforce and our customers operations.  Specifically, the tasks of Non-Destructive Examination (Ultrasonic Testing/Eddy Current), Machining, and Welding are tasks that would serve as the focus for this project. Challenges associated with latency and restrictions related to communication due to structures and site specific capabilities will need to be addressed. What is your solution for off-site remote tooling operation?
